Pathetic & Spectacularly Unfunny
This was a spectacularly unfunny movie.
Jerry Stiller - whom I love in King of Queens and Seinfeld - isabsolutely horrible as the foul-mouthed 77 year old father. His streamof obscenities are not so much funny as they are unbelievable.
Ben Stiller, as usual, is not funny. His character is a pathetic loserwho is impossible to either identify with or like at all. And that hemarries his girlfriend without knowing not even a single iota about herpersonal life is ludicrous and 100% unbelievable. The writers made hercharacter totally unlikeable which should make us root for Stiller, buthis character was just so blah that I found myself rooting for her.
The characters are shallow, the gross-out humor is not even so muchgross as it is just plain makes you cringe at it's awkwardness.
The character's attempts to return to America late in the movie feltlike they were tacked on as an afterthought in an attempt to update themovie and make it feel topical. These scenes do not work at all.
Could go on, but I think I've made my point.
